The rarest SP of all and the only production street Ducati with a 955cc engine.

One of only 54 SPA (Sport Production America) worldwide and number 1 of the very few (I’ve heard 13?) imported to the UK new and known as the 955 SP here. The plaque on the top yoke confirms it’s number 1. The 54 super-rare SPAs were built in 1996 to homologate a set of 96mm pistons & barrels for use in AMA Superbike racing. The engine also features Pankl titanium con-rods and some sources quote modified crankshaft and crankcases as well but details are scarce. The 955cc capacity comes from a 2mm overbore and there are lots of 916s out there fitted with aftermarket 955cc overbore kits so it’s important to check the engine number has a ZDM955 prefix if you want to know it’s a genuine SPA. This one has that code and the engine is number 27, right in the middle of production numbers.
With only two owners and less than 20k miles from new (clocks are all in km) and a comprehensive documented service history, this particular example is very attractive indeed. Sold to the second owner and seviced by Pro Twins for the last 16 years, clearly with no expense spared, it has a slipper clutch fitted. Presented in standard specification with the exception of a carbon bellypan fitted by Pro Twins and an alcantara seat pad, it has had a hugger fitted which has protected the shock from the elements but it’s been removed to restore the original look. The history file contains a stack of old MOTs to support the mileage and a huge collection of service invoices. Two keys, a bespoke fitted red/white/green soft cover and the original clutch all come with it.
