The 500SS is a rare model; produced in limited numbers between 1961 and 1966; and it's a very rewarding bike to own and ride. The smaller Dominator is really special for a number of reasons on top of the winning recipe of Featherbed frame and Roadholder forks. The smaller engine produces 36 horsepower at 7,000 believe it or not, which was enough to make 111mph at MIRA when tested it! This lovely example has the correct 650SS spec twin chopped matched downdraft carbs fitted with the correct manifolds, ultra-rare optional Dunlop alloy rims, original tinware and it's been nicely restored in the relatively recent past by the looks of it. First registered on 16th July 1963 to a Mr Lyndon Prichard in Rogerstone, the bike stayed in the Newport area for most of it's life up until quite recently. The V5C says three former keepers but the original RF60 and continuation log books tell a different story. Matching numbers and retaining the original registration with a good documented history including some parts invoices and old MOT certificates. The video you hear here is pre-engine rebuild so it will sound even better for the new owner and you'll have the peace of mind of knowing it has many miles of mechanical reliability and performance ahead. Full engine rebuild notes and pictures will be available but it's having new big-end bearings, oil pump for sure and anything else required to restore it to perfect health. The rebuild is by Gerry at Classic Bike Workshop so no corners cut on this engine! The oil tap will be removed to avoid accidents in the future, wet-sumping will be minimised with new big-ends and oil pump.
