This incrediblly light and fast SRX was built by John McGrath and Richard Lockyer for Richard to compete in hill-climb events. John is a renowned engine builder and he tuned this one for road use and hill-climbs, since when he has had it back for regular servicing. The impressive specification includes 635cc engine with 10:1 compression fed by huge CR carbs, big valves, Carillo con-rods, Megacycle camshaft all tuned for a wide spread of power without sacrificing reliability. Exhaust is a special one-off based on an Over system tuned by specialists; Gibson Exhausts. The chassis is special too: FZR front forks, brakes and swing-arm with White Power rear shocks. The bespoke aluminium fuel tank, seat unit and side panels were created by an ex-Formula 1 fabricator and many one-off CNC machined items were made by John McGrath himself. All new switchgear, electronic speedo and rev counter by JR, Brembo brakes overhauled, wheels refurbished in anthracite grey with new bearingas and Michelin Pilot sticky tyres. All the important items are lock-wired for security and scrutineering.
The bike starts easily with the right technique and is a joy to ride. Winner of the Thumper Club’s Best Thumper award in 2001 (trophy with it) but not used in anger for a few years. New pictures to follow, now even tidier after a couple of years of loving ownership but little use.
