Norton Commando Roadster

The iconic yellow Roadster and what a fine example! In many eyes; mine included; this is THE 750 Commando to have. It’s all about the memories and for me there was always something about a clean yellow Roadster that made an impression. A spirited ride on the pillion of an older friend over 50 years ago brings back memories of this machine and the look, the feel and OMG the sound are all there.

OK stop waffling on Buncey, what about some facts? Matching numbers, original registration and a stack of documented history come with this machine. Better than that it was Gerry’s for years and it was his favourite. Rebuilt and ridden by someone who knows and loves Commandos and puts them together properly so they work like they should. Until you’ve ridden a well put together Commando you really can’t appreciate how good they can be and this is one to ride. So to be clear, the engine has been rebuilt completely bottom to top, carefully run in and really only just run in so it’s fresh and very very healthy. Starts easily, idles smoothly and pulls like a train. Handles well with good tyres and suspension, isolastics recently replaced with vernier adjustables. Electrically excellent, everything works as it should. This bike has been owned by someone who had the intention and the ability to get it exactly right, no expense spared, no compromises, built to work properly and reliably and proven to do so. The paint could be better but it’s good enough. Mechanically superb and a joy to ride. I really want to keep it so have a look at the red one; Gerry built that too and it has more new parts on it!

A note on price. Prices have fallen on classic motorcycles of this era. You can pick up a Commando for significantly less than this now. We have done exactly that and five grand in the workshop later it’s almost as good as this one. If you want one that works because it has been put together properly with good quality parts buy one like this and save yourself the time and trauma of fixing up an average one. And ultimately you will save some money too.
