BMW R90S

This is a rare UK series 1 in Daytona Orange, manufactured in March 1974 from the matching numbers, first registered in UK on 01/07/1974. This very machine featured in Real Classic Issue 114 October 2013, a copy of which is on file, in which it is stated that it’s believed to be one of the first Daytona Orange machines made. This is debateable as the numbers confirm it’s an early 1974 machine and our belief is that the orange colour scheme came with the 1975 model year available towards the end of 1974. So it was probably silver/black originally but who knows, it is debateable and it doesn’t really matter as it’s so lovely in the later colours. Also on file are many invoices and much service history since the bike was restored in 2004 with a lot of mechanical work by Roger Bennett Engineering. It’s done less than 5,000 miles since then with MOTs to prove. Thousands of pounds have been spent and the result is very pleasing indeed. One of the best Daytona Orange paint jobs we’ve seen. There are a few subtle performance upgrades like Boyer Bransden electronic ignition and braided hoses and a few features from later models like the drilled discs and plug caps but make no mistake this is a matching numbers early first model and still retains important identifying parts such as switchgear and kick-start lever. Mechanically quiet, starts easily and idles perfectly, everything works and recent attention includes a gearbox and drivetrain rebuild and Metzeler tyres. High quality Krauser replica panniers included. This bike is now back in stock and has been recommissioned in our own workshop. This work included replacing the pushrod tube oil seals so it’s had a full top-end strip, inspection and rebuild with all new gaskets and seals and valve clearances adjusted of course. Inspection of the engine internals lead us to believe this is a low mileage engine from new; it’s lovely inside as well as out. This is nice to know because the speedo was reset when the bike was restored and there is very little documented history prior to this. Post-workshop test rides proved most enjoyable; this really is a bike that goes as good as it looks.
