Gilera’s answer to the Sixteener Special boom came in on and off-road styles and the Trial was by far the most beautiful and popular of the two. This is the proper moped version with the pedals specifically for the UK market and this particular example has be restored to a very high standard by a respected local restorer well known and admired by CSB. In fact this bike is in our personal collection but sometimes you just can’t keep them all. The bike has been completely rebuilt and restored and consequently wants for nothing. It started first kick (pedal) after a few years in the shed although as you can see it needs a ride to clear it out a bit. To be honest the video was taken with a broken throttle cable, or the end of the cable has slipped out of the twist-grip, so I was pulling the carb-end of the cable and wasn’t going to run it for long until it’s been in the workshop so it’s not at its best here! Lots of paperwork; unusually; handbook, warranty book, brochure, lots of parts and service invoices, factory dating certificate and some old MOTs, there are even some steering lock keys with it. I don’t think they come much better than this and if you had one when you were 16 it’s as close as you’ll get to re-living the dream.
