A truly exceptional early Commando in standard original but restored condition. Owned by our friend Mr Classic Bike Workshop personally since 1985 and with only two former keepers, it is has been completely rebuilt very recently and still requires some running-in. Matching frame, engine and gearbox numbers and the original registration add to the provenance. Riding it proves how good Commandos can be and it’s a testimony to the skill and care lavished upon it over the years and particularly in the last couple as it has undergone a no-expense-spared rebuild and restoration. We are generally wary of restored bikes with few miles on them, so often “some of the right parts but not all in the right places” but in this case it is simply all the right parts in all the right places doing all the right things. Some sympathetic improvements have been allowed; vernier adjustable isolastics for instance, modern tyres obviously and modern oils. It’s all be done right and they really don’t come any better than this. Currently running on Aspen ethanol-free fuel, the original fibreglass tank will need treating to use pump fuel and preserve the tank, and if this was to be undertaken we would advise refreshing the red paint to complete the restoration to concours standard.
