Norton Commando 850
A nice example of Norton’s easy-going 850 pre-electric start Commando.
Recently imported from the USA and restored to a good standard without going over the top, so retaining some patina of age and originality. Registered on a correct age-related UK number with supporting paperwork and the V5C shows what careful inspection of the bike itself shows; it’s a matching numbers frame/engine/gearbox machine. A Norton Owners Club dating letter confirms date of manufacture and model provenance. The engine has just been set-up by Classic Bike Workshop and as you can hear she’s running sweet and quiet, starting easily and quickly on the kick. The engine has been rebuilt by a well-known Norton man and appears to be mechanically excellent although we have noted a lack of compression on the left cylinder. There are no notes on restoration or the engine build but it’s reportedly done very few miles since the work was completed so perhaps some settling down will improve the situation. Only miles and/or further inspection will confirm this, but as you can see and hear it’s rather nice as it is.
