Honda CB750 Four
This US import has had a fortune spent on it; some well documented and some not so; but it’s not quite there. Hence the price. It actually rides really well now, it even handles and stops well for an old 750/4 and the engine is fresh and willing in performance terms. It should be as it has just recently been completely rebuilt by professional motorcycle engineers. The truth is it’s a little smokey on cold start-up but this clears quickly as you can see in the video and it runs cleanly when warm. It’s done some miles with the last owner since the rebuild so there isn’t anything nasty going on in there, the oil comes out clean and it sounds OK so maybe it still needs a bit of running-in or maybe some of the parts used in the rebuild weren’t genuine Honda parts? There is a stack of David Silver invoices in the file but the engine rebuild invoice isn’t so we don’t know. And that’s the story with this bike really; a mixture of good and unknown. Lots of lovely original bits to enjoy, like the metal-flake orange paintwork (but the right side panel is cracked under the sticker), good original Honda exhausts (but at least one has had some silver paint behind), lots of new parts like seat, cables, rear wheel rebuild, handlebars (but the clutch cable is slightly too long), recent Avon Roadrider tyres and a new Motobatt battery. Classic Bike Workshop have just set the ignition timing, balanced the carbs, changed the oil and filter, renewed the seat lock mechanism and ignition lock with matching keys…it goes on. We had to stop somewhere so it’s a ride-or-restore proposition, it’s good as it is but it could be better with even more love and attention, and money of course. Classic ’70s Honda 750 Four for less than £4k anyone?
