A friend and professional motorcycle mechanic owned this bike from 1960 and it is still in his name. The subject of a ground-up rebuild over many years which included a full engine refresh and the installation of a 5-speed gearbox in place of the standard four gears. The job has just been completed by Classic Bike Workshop and I can report that it is; as expected; a sweet motor, pulling cleanly and quietly without a rattle or a puff of smoke. The 5-speed conversion works well and gear changes are smooth and easy. It comes with detailed notes from our workshop to an invoice value of £ . There is a good history file including the original sales receipt, invoices over the years, manuals and books, old and new Log Books (V5C) and ownership notes. It is a matching numbers machine but the frame is a factory replacement after an accident pre-1960 and in those days the factory supplied a replacement unstamped and it is hand stamped on the right rather than the left side. The fuel tank is a new replacement almost certainly of Indian origin, recently painted to a high quality as has all the tinware. There are a number of “Mikeisms” like the twin horns and the BMW indicators. The practical touches of a practical owner who was a Police mechanic working on BMWs for many years and we knew him as a BMW specialist with high standards. So there you have it; a lovely machine rebuilt with many new and old parts, mechanically excellent (will need running in a bit) and an envious ownership history. Original registration number still displayed front and back (a Reading, Berkshire registered and owned machine all its life) and comprehensive professional  70th birthday refresh completed ready for the road in 2025.
