BSA ZB32 Gold Star
A very nicely presented 1949 350cc Gold Star and in fine mechanical condition too. With the ignition timing set correctly it performs extremely well, starts easily and idles perfectly with the manual advance/retard lever set to full retard. There is a generous amount of advance/retard travel on the magneto which results in the engine rather too willing to rev when the lever is set to full advance, as demonstrated in the video. In practice one rides with the lever in a restricted range and even then you have the pleasure of using such responsiveness as a kind of second throttle. Classic Bike Workshop will mark the usable range on the lever as they often do for the new owner. The bike comes with a history of recent engine and gearbox work which is documented and explains the excellent performance. It has clearly had more money thrown at it in restoration work too, lots of new parts and it does demonstrate how pretty these early tele-rigid Goldies can be. Fitted with a later Amal Concentric carburettor and running well on it. The document file includes some invoices, service manual and instruction sheets for this model, along with the V5C of course. There is also a VMCC dating letter confirming that both engine and frame are of 1949 manufacture (it is a replacement engine though) and it is a B32 not a B31 so it’s the real deal. Both frame and engine numbers are clearly visible and pictures will be provided on request.
