Here’s a rare thing: a matching-numbers European XT500 from the first year of production. This is a £10k motorcycle when restored to original specification. That’s not quick or cheap to do but it’s not the hard bit, the hard bit is finding what we have here which is the right model with correct numbers. Not much known about this machine but it has clearly had recent engine attention; new base and other gaskets; and it starts easily and is mechanically quiet and smooth. It had wet-sumped in storage so the crankcase full of oil is almost certainly the cause of the smoke on the video. Compression is good so it’s likely the top-end has been rebuilt and it’ll probably clean up with some use. The fuel tank is actually quite clean inside but we were running off a remote tank in the workshop for the video so it’s only been run for long enough to know it is mechanically sound. Needs a chain and sprocket kit and a few other bits to get it on the road. Needs more parts to restore to original of course. Selling as a restoration project. What’s it worth? They are so rare in this condition that it is hard to value but give Chris a call with your offer and we will let it go to a good home.
