Where do we start with this one? The good points: it is a genuine matching numbers K1 so it’s a rare and sought after model from 1968 in running order with some rare original parts. The engine starts easily and idles smoothly, revs responsively and it’s not too rattly with very little cam chain noise. The tinware is in remarkably good condition and well worth re-chroming. The engine and frame numbers on the V5C are correct and it was first registered LOW 321R in the UK in 1976 but correspondence on file confirms that the Honda Owners Club will verify 1968 as a manufacture date for the purposes of obtaining a correct age related registration number (and Historic tax). The bad points you can see from the pictures: bodywork looks like K2 model, later Honda switchgear, hand painted frame, instruments in poor condition (but working) and generally looking a bit tired to say the least. I was told this tank is a rare early K1 tank and whilst I can find no evidence to support this from my brief initial research the former owner was convinced of it so keeping an open mind until an expert calls. On the upside again; it’s all there and running, good exhausts (right silencer scraped) and pretty original Honda seat. Well worth restoring and well worth buying at less than £3,000!
